Lavras lift is one of the most secret in Lisbon and will give a beautiful viewpoint
Inaugurated on April 19, 1884, it connects Largo da Anunciada and Rua Câmara Pestana, through Calçada do Lavra.
Originally it used a rack and cable balanced by water balance as a traction system, later being moved by steam. In 1915, the lift, which on its opening day worked 16 hours straight, was electrified.
The Lavra Lift is a funicular to public transportation, located at Calçada do Lavra, Lisbon. Inaugurated in 1884, it is the oldest elevator in the city of Lisbon; establishes the connection between Rua Pestana Street and Largo da Anunciada.
It is owned by the Lisbon Railroad Company and is classified as a National Monument since 19 February 2002 (Decree-Law 5/2002, Diário da República 42, 1st series-B, 19 February 2002). .
The funicular was built by the Portuguese engineer Raoul Mesnier du Ponsard, (also responsible for the design of numerous similar works [1] ), and opened on April 19, 1884.
The Lavra Lift was closed due to malfunction between July 8 and August 12, 2011, and the reopening depended on missing material.
The two identical carriages, numbered 1 and 2 , are made up of two driving aisles, and a passenger lounge with two seats with their backs facing the windows, all at the same horizontal level - with a higher end (front to rear). descending) and one closer to the ground, such as the Gloria Lift, in that it differs from many other funiculars. The entrances and exits of each carriage shall be through two doors fitted with a pantograph gate and situated at the lower outermost end on either side of the rising active control station.
The track is 188 m, with an average slope of 22.9%, on a double-track track built into the ordinary road pavement, with 90 cm gauge and central slot for cable connection.
In 2002, it was classified as a National Monument.
