Cascais will be the first city with free public transport in 2020 Portugal
If you live in Cascais or usually go there for business or pleasure, get ready because there is an authentic revolution in transport.
The most important measure is the launch of free public road transport for residents of the city center in January next year.
The date was confirmed by the Mayor, Carlos Carreiras, during a meeting of Portugal Mobi Summit, international mobility event that will take place in Carcavelos in October.
At the meeting, the mayor also said that users of these public transport will earn credits, which they can then use in services of the municipality, such as concerts. “Its the beginning of a new currency,” said Carlos Carreiras, quoted by the Diário de Notícias.
Parking in the county is also preparing for some changes. All residents who are registered with the MobiCascais application will be entitled to 100 free parking minutes per day (except in red zones and in accordance with current regulations).
Later this month, the City Council will also launch the first autonomous vehicle of the county, which will make the journey between the Carcavelos railway station and the Nova Scholl of Business & Economics.
